| ACTIVATE1 | Jun 10, 2007 7:02pm | I agree. I think if these kids had positive role models to nurture them as they grew up, they may not have turned to crime. I think these kids feed off of the sense of belonging that the gang life offers. This increases their feelings of self esteem and self worth because they feel apart of something bigger than themselves. Ideally, these feelings should be developed throughout ones developmental years, ideally within the home environment and ideally with parental influence.
So yeah, they should take responsibility for what their kids have turned into. Violence is just the symptom of a greater problem and instead of focusing our resources on fighting it, we should look at what is really the problem - target the reasons why these youths are turning to the gang life. |
